Thanks to Jeff R

Fleur-de-lis ore "lily flower" has traditionally represented French monarchy, and in the United States is frequently found in areas that were originally settled by the French.  Pictured as a stylized lily flower, the fleur-de-lis is a popular symbol of Louisiana and on July 9, 2008 it was signed into law as the state symbol.
