Thanks to Irma Brown

RT 66
Designated in 1926 as the Chicago to Los Angeles route to the national highway system, Route 66 spans 8 states and nearly 2400 miles.  Intended to connect the main streets of rural and urban communities, it is often called "The Main Street of America."  Although appearing on very few current maps, nearly 85% of the original road can still be traveled by car today.
